
BREE NIEVES
Bree Nieves (b. Oklahoma) is an emmy-nominated
Pacific Islander Filipina and Afro Puerto-Rican
director, producer, and filmmaker.
Bree Nieves is a producer with a demonstrated history in journalism, documentary, storytelling and filmmaking. As a documentary and fiction filmmaker her work addresses motifs of gender, faith, ritual, southern culture, and the asian and black diaspora in the United States.
She is a 2022 Sundance Institute Uprise Grantee and a 2021 Center For Asian American Media Fellow with mentorship support from acclaimed Director Steve Maing. Bree is an alumnus of IF/Then Shorts, the South Shorts Grant and Residency in partnership with New Orleans Film Society. She was mentored by the prolific Ramona S. Diaz through the Asian American Stories of Resilience and Beyond initiative. Her emmy-nominated short film "Malditas," a co-production with WORLD channel, Asian Documentary Network and Center For Asian American Media is available on the PBS App and Amazon Prime.
She has most recently worked at CNN as a Field Producer, at VICE WORLD NEWS as a Producer and at HULU on the Unscripted and Documentary Originals team.
She is currently a 2023 SFFILM House Resident.
